Has anyone else encountered BitLocker Recovery Key because Secure Boot policy has unexpectedly changed? I was prompted to do an update yesterday on my laptop with Windows 11 and when it finished, I got a screen with the above message. I could not bypass this screen and I couldn't use my laptop like normal until I got "this code". It's related to Microsoft so you have to log into your Microsoft account (or create one) and retrieve your Bitlocker Recovery Key which is a loooong series of numbers. It's a Microsoft "thing" for extra protection on your computer. I didn't request or install this option. It was nervewracking trying to navigate this. I drove to where we purchased the laptop (they have tech support) but it's a Microsoft thing and they couldn't do anything except walk me through some steps with my phone to get the Key. Just curious if anyone has had experience with this.

I restarted my laptop last night before I went to bed and got the Bitlocker screen again and had to enter the Keycode number series but I had taken a screenshot of it when I did it the first time so that helped. According to tech support, it's an added layer of protection on your computer since hackers are so prevelant. Ugh!

Gotta love Microsoft adding all kinds of things we don't want. This sounds like a nightmare!

Did you have a microsoft account set up? We do, wonder if that is why we did not get it

I’m sorry you dealt with this! You can bypass this using a command prompt if you didn’t have a Microsoft account linked to your computer before. I never link because Microsoft is data hungry to begin with. But they make it intentionally confusing and obtuse. Glad you got through, though. Gotta love Windows

I have never set up my own computer and was annoyed that the store didn't do it for me like they always do/did. We pay for their tech service. Hubby and I are Windows people and our kids use Apple and don't live with us anymore so we are kinda scr***d with the techy stuff.

Hubby is not very savvy with this stuff, add to the fact that he just turned 70 and has a lot of brain fog from the chemos!! This would do him in I have always set them up myself but wish I knew more tricks to get rid of stuff I do not want.
